Insert Witty Knitting Themed Title Here

I finally got it down!!! I can knit, although it does take me a couple minutes to finish a row because I go so slowly. But the important thing is that I can actually knit now! I have, admittedly, swapped out the colored pencils for actual knitting needles. Made the whole process a lot easier.

I find that I freak out a lot if I think I've dropped a stitch. I continually count the stitches in the row, even if I know I didn't drop one. I'm just weird. And I did pretty good, too!!! I did ten rows without dropping a single stitch. But that's when I thought it would be a cool idea to knit in my living room while I made tea. See, I have this dog. A standard poodle named Carli. Adorable dog, I love her to bits. Sadly, she loved my knitting to bits and om nom nomed it. So what was going to be a lovely eye-glass cloth for cleaning is now destroyed. I was so upset I haven't tried to knit since.

But I'm going to make a deal with myself! If I can knit 30 rows without dropping a stitch or letting Carli eat my project, I'm going to get spiffy new yarn and knitting needles. Good idea? Hopefully. Gawd, I can't wait until I can knit awesome things. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Knit Happens

I have never had the desire to knit before. To be honest, I can't sit still and watch a movie for 2 hours, let alone make a freaking sweater! Plus, since I get seriously hot seriously fast, I wouldn't be able to wear anything I made. I could go on with the list of excuses I gave myself. But one day I was digging around in the crawlspace under my parents' stairs, and I came upon something very strange. What looked like an old, taupe colored diaper bag was stuffed with patterns, skeins of yarn and crotchet hooks. It turns out, my mother used to be a freaking crotchet wizard! But she had never learned how to knit! Think nothing of it, I continued on with my life. Until about a month ago.

Apparently, I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my ovary, which was never caught because I hate the doctor more than anything else in this world (even more than scales, skinny jeans and people who are a size 4 but claim 'to be fat'.) Surgery was scheduled, and having now come out of it alright, I now need something to do to keep myself from going completely insane. Or, perhaps I just want to go crazy. Who knows.

Enter Stitch n' Bitch. I'd heard about it from Thread Banger, since I already sew. So I obtained a copy, and set out to knit for the first time ever with the orange yarn from my mother's stash. But I am not the sharpest knitting needle in the bunch, and I forgot to get just that; knitting needles. So, being as brilliant as I am, I improvised. I used colored pencils.

It didn't go to well, but I don't think the lack of proper hardwear had anything to do with it. My problem comes with the actual knitting. I get really confused and start trying to add this and take away that. Casting on I got. Knitting? Not so much. So my first attempts? Not so good. I WILL be going to get knitting needles soon, and will report back with my continued attempts at the wonderful world of knitting.

Comment Question of the Day: Is there any really cool trick you can share about the act of knitting that could help me from getting confused as to what to actually do? If not, what or who do you knit for? Why did you start?
